That's what the word pandemic means, once you hit a certain combination of infection rate and people already infected, math just makes it impossible to actually stop the number from hitting 100%, the economic/social cost of quarantine is too high

It's not saying that it literally will infect everyone in the world but it's going to infect everyone who's vulnerable to infection, there's no way to stop that now Not in a society where nobody can get away with never physically interacting with other humans

That's why - just as with climate change - we have to focus on the fact that the idea of suddenly stopping or reversing the trend is impossible and focus on slowing the rate so we can manage the consequences
