I remember a news story a long while ago where Catholics were starting to feel pretty uneasy about kids all sipping wine from the same vessel during First Communion or whatever and a priest interviewed insisted the Eucharist was naturally sterile because, body and blood of Christhttps://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1237149107925291009 …

Also I mean the chalice is silver & it's alcohol...I'm not saying that's sterile but if it's a reduced rate of infection I'm gonna call that science, personally

Putting something in a silver cup does not keep it sterile and it works on bacteria not viruses, wine runs between 12x13% alcohol, not even antibacterial levels of alcohol, you need 60%+ to affect the virus, drinking from a communal cup you might as well just lick each other

I looked up this story and the majority of Catholic officials discouraged people coming to church when sick, but First Communion is a big deal and one of those things there's a lot of pressure behind so whatever I guess

Anyway the real argument is that kids are gross generally anyway and our society is very far from hygienic so in the grand scheme of things it's not that big a deal "No worse than the exposure you get riding the subway" Not really what you want to hear right now
