I remember a news story a long while ago where Catholics were starting to feel pretty uneasy about kids all sipping wine from the same vessel during First Communion or whatever and a priest interviewed insisted the Eucharist was naturally sterile because, body and blood of Christhttps://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1237149107925291009 …

He was all like "hurr durr there's no records of anyone getting sick from the Eucharist in all of human history" and it's like. Do you know how hard it is to decisively prove food contamination Also do you know how easy it is to smear a communion wafer on an agar plate

Though as a misotheist and a dystheist and a student of history I have to say If people are catching a disease at a church it's only because God wants his servants to spread it to decent people so he can watch them die

The funny thing about this strip is there's a very vivid passage from CS Lewis in Mere Christianity about how much he despises the religion of "everything will be all right" and the childishness of this sentiment is what originally drove him to atheism

And he says his Christianity is much closer to Zoriastrian dualism or even Gnostic dystheism, that a Christianity without a Devil is stupid and unconvincing The Prince of this World is obviously the Devil, and he clearly fucking hates you and prowls the Earth like a roaring lion

I looked it up and yes it was Lewis who said he was up all night in the trenches in WWI trapped listening to the dying screams of a soldier bleeding out slowly from a gut shot, saying the Devil had been chasing him his whole life and had finally caught up to him
