I always saw VtM as a literalization of that theme You know - all of them know - that what you do every night just to survive is fundamentally wrong, and that the right thing to do, if you really cared, is to go outside and watch the sun rise

If you've ever been in a corporate environment, you see this all the time. Everyone, even "friends" are competing to move up. When one does, they have to justify it to themselves, so more often than not, they start to see everyone else as lesser so that they deserve it.

I've never had the opportunity to be "above" people I formally considered work friends, but I sincerely wonder often how I would handle it...
