But yeah, it's just getting kind of tedious how almost *everyone* is an absolute piece of shit without redeeming values beyond interpersonal relationships and humanity is portrayed as morally foul and unworthy? like this is very much *not* "classic Castlevania."

I think it's not saying humanity is irredeemable though. I think the Captain had the right of it in the show's worldview - "revenge is good, but you have to build something afterward". Neither Alucard nor Sypha and Trevor are building anything.

Season 3 is definitely the “Empire Strikes Back” Of The series, our heroes lowest point. And I would argue Alucard isn’t full evil by the end, just starting down a dark road (for understandable reasons).

He really started down the dark path when he semi-arbitrarily moved into the castle instead of living in society. As we saw from the end of S3, the castle is adequately protected by traps and magic weapons

He’s still shaken and not in a good place, mentally, and has no experience with society. He doesn’t know how to assimilate, and fears he will be ostracized by vampires and humans.

It's not really starting down the dark path given his explicit desire is to bring his father's knowledge to the world. That's actually sort of why I'm annoyed all other monsters are apparently Just Ridiculously Awful Assholes.

I mean, the other vampires aren't any more evil than is inherent in a predator species.

I mean the basic problem here is one you see in a lot of shows w/vampires or other former humans - they're former humans, which makes their treatment of humans as Literally Animal Cattle hard to justify?

Plenty of people do come from parts of society that, after escaping from them, they freely dehumanize Or, hell, are adults who were once children and hate children and think of them as subhuman

If I were coming at this from an animal rights POV the fact that people "dehumanize" actual cattle would be even stronger evidence for this point The absurdly selective way we apply empathy

You'll dox someone and destroy their life because they went viral for kicking a dog or something, and point to this as evidence for the deep human capacity for empathy Then all of you will bite into a hamburger tomorrow for lunch
