There's a major major market failure in people seriously buying drinking alcohol and then not drinking it considering how much the price of it is jacked up in order to allow you to drink it (regulations, licensing, sin taxes)

Wouldn’t Everclear or SoCo be more effective?
-
It needs to be at least 120 proof (60%), and SoCo tops out at 100 proof

Interestingly I've got a bottle of Absinthe which, at 62% alcohol by volume is A-OK for hand sanitizing, oh boy.

Aren't they made with isopropyl alcohol? Will ethanol work?
-
Ethanol is in fact somewhat more effective at killing viruses than isopropyl alcohol but is more expensive so less commonly used Partly because ethanol sold pharmaceutically has to be strictly regulated and contaminated to make it undrinkable

Isn't the biggest econ 101 failure here that nobody has popped up to supply more sanitizer? (Because the more advanced bit is that changes in production take much longer than prices adjusting does)
