The prognosis of the virus is a two-tier sorting thing The majority of the time the virus just comes and goes with "flu-like" symptoms Sometimes it becomes a severe illness that attacks the lungs (pneumonia) Your general health affects this process but doesn't determine it

They don't know exactly why the virus causes an illness so much worse in just some patients but it's probably genetic (The theory is the relevant gene is on the X chromosome, which is why men are roughly twice as likely to die of COVID-19 as women)

(Because if you have two X chromosomes you'd need to have the trait on both chromosomes to be vulnerable but if you have XY chromosomes you only have one X chromosome with no backup)

At some point this virus will stop being something that affects other people and becomes something that’s affecting me, or people I know.

The point is accurate information and informed caution not Twitter bullshit and media panic. Acting like we should be freaking out is GOING TO HURT THE VULERNABLE MORE. We're already on a run on masks for health care professionals, hospitals can not handle capacity.
