I'm not saying he has to be insincere or dishonest, but yeah he needs this guy's current supporters to like him and consider jumping ship to him, and to have a working relationship with everyone in his orbit So he has to try to find nice things to say

I don't think any of us non-politicians are actually unfamiliar with how this works but I think a lot of people have made Bernie's campaign into this symbolic cultural thing it really isn't "Bend the knee" shit "Once Bernie wins we'll be done with this bullshit"

He's gotten a lot of pushback for coming across as mean. He didn't do as well on Super Tuesday as Joe. I think it's reasonable to believe he was advised to be more overtly nice towards him to improve his chances.
