you know how people insist (INSIST!!) that if there were no laws or enforcement of them everyone would devolve into violence and chaos? have you ever noticed that even at 2 AM, with no traffic around, no cops, and no red light cameras, people will wait for a red light

I mean I get some of your argument but there’s a no turn on red stoplight at the corner that the police department it at in this town. After midnight, people ignore that no turn on red sign constantly. Despite being literally in front of the police department.

People feel very differently about different laws, like Americans think of speed limits and "no turn on red" like suggestions, but red lights are actual rules And like I mentioned "don't drive on the wrong side of the road" is even more ingrained than that

It's interesting that that in particular is a very strong taboo for Americans Douglas Adams wrote about how parking facing the wrong way is no big deal on the UK and arguably safer in many situations but in the US is illegal because it requires driving the wrong way to pull out

And saying that when he parked on the left side in LA one time the cop who saw him and ticketed him actually freaked out, like he was immediately endangering lives by doing so
