Yeah John Lennon hit his wife and son, and ultimately cheated on Cynthia and left her, Paul wrote "Hey Jude" to comfort his son Jules over the divorce And it wasn't a secret, there was a media feeding frenzy over it at the time and it's in a bunch of the songs

Yoko Ono should really get more credit for being the one to finally drill it into his head that that's not appropriate behavior.

That one was, in fact, Yoko's idea, she coined the phrase in an interview

Yoko Ono coined the phrase "Woman Is the N***** of the World" in an interview to describe her belief that patriarchy, unlike racism, is global and culturally universal

Then John and Yoko made a song with that title (Which, contrary to what some people say, was extremely controversial in 1972, not just today, and led to John trying to defend it by pulling up quotes from Black people he argued said similar things)

Yoko got the quote from Zora Neal Hurston's quote in Their Eyes Were Watching God, "The n***** woman is the mule of the world", but that quote does not mean the same thing and in fact pretty clearly means the opposite

Anyway the upshot of all this is John Lennon's "spiritual transformation" into this wise guru figure was almost 100% him just taking Yoko's lead and parroting things she thought after they got together Like the lyrics to "Imagine" are inspired by a poem from a book she wrote

Which was sometimes good, I guess, but also often super cringe (a description that very much applies to Yoko's career)
