To be fair, - The lyrics to the left were written years AFTER the lyrics to the right - The lyrics to the left are pretty firmly in the camp that beating women is a shitty thing to do.

Yyyyeah honestly the best defense of the lyrics of "Getting Better" is that it's bitter self loathing irony, taking the song at face value was absurd in 1967 and it's absurd now

Anyway, I mean, the funny thing is at the time that was a big part of John's image and his fandom, he was the "bad boy" of the Beatles "Happiness is a Warm Gun" etc That's why reimagining him as a cuddly benign mentor figure like in the movie Yesterday is so irritating
