An unarmed black man in the United States is more likely to be struck by lightning than he is to be killed by police. In a large enough country it's trivial to create a media circus around events that, on a per-capita basis, virtually never happen.

This is false; being shot by the police is rare, but not that rare. Over the past ten years, the US has averaged ~27 lightning strike fatalities; ~6.5% of the US is black men, but rounded up to 7%, that's an average of 1.89. In 2019, 8 unarmed black men were killed by police.
