The Journey to the West is a famous Chinese novel based entirely on the fact that traveling to India (the West) in ancient times was an extremely difficult journey

Even for a chauvinistic white person JKR has really bizarre ideas of what parts of the world "go together" Old school Chinese imperialists absolutely did not think they had a shared cultural history with India, any more than New Zealand has one with Vietnam

She's just bad at this Old school HP fandom pretty much decided very early on JKR is innumerate - she doesn't like math and has a hard time thinking in terms of numbers so any time numbers are involved she just makes shit up that makes no sense

She should've just admitted that eleven magical schools is a ridiculously small number and retconned it to being eleven "top" or "world class" schools But she's stubborn or whatever

Hell, one hundred total magical schools is still a small number (the number of universities in the world is over 10,000) If schools are "evenly divided" among the population and Hogwarts serves just the UK and Ireland (about 1% of the Earth's population) 100 is about right

Also that’s like 40% of the world’s population?

How many students must go to that school? It’s gotta be absolutely huge. Hogwarts would never win an international contest, just by sheer force of numbers - except I’m sure all the rules somehow get made at Hogwarts
-
If you scale the number of students at Hogwarts (she's said 1000) with population, roughly 70 million in the British Isles and 2.5 billion in China and the Indian subcontinent: 35 000 students at "School #11"
