If Trump had gotten less than a majority of the electoral votes, because Jill Stein or Gary Johnson had done unexpectedly well, the general election would've been thrown to a "brokered convention" in the House of Representatives
That's never been how it works and no one would approve a system that said it works like that, it means if some candidate squeaks in with 40% of the vote you just told 60% of the people who voted to eat shit

The fact that FPTP races make this kind of coordination impossible among a large pool of voters has been discussed for ages as why FPTP is a fundamentally shitty system It's the whole reason people scream at third party voters and third parties are unviable in the US
