I think your argument about "there's no candidate "Somebody Else" is interesting, because the people whose votes would be disregarded if the nomination goes to whoever won the plurality didn't vote for that candidate either.
It's not about me or anyone else deciding that, it's about the candidates deciding that When you vote for a candidate in the primary you're not just voting for them to get the nomination, you're casting a vote for them to have a certain amount of influence at the convention
