remember that the collapse of empires rarely happened in a single momentous event but were often prolonged processes that took years and sometimes is poorly agreed-upon. the Roman Empire fell in 476, 1453, or 1922, depending on your point of view.

If I were writing it I'd just give it to him that he really was the last gasp of the Roman Emperors like he wanted to be and the Empire died with him in 1945
