I can't decide which missing the explicit mechanics of the plot read of ARRIVAL I hate more, NDGT's or the one where it's "pro-life"

I haven't heard the pro-life one, but it reminds me that the movie changes the point of the story in subtle but extremely important ways (including the one that opens it up to this reading), which I've always found annoying.

The problem is it's a movie, and there isn't time to give the full narration to the viewer about why she absolutely can't change the future, and it wouldn't feel effective if they did So keeping that plot point unchanged would make half the audience freak out

Also I will say that the change allows the Chinese general and the heroine to have more parallelism, since then they're both coping with deaths of loved ones from cancer. And changing his wife's death to rock climbing would stretch credulity
