    1. Dr. Ellie Lockhart. Republic serial villain.‏ @BootlegGirl 24 Feb 2020

Which honestly, like, I don't know the guy or his politics or whatever but I think given the online reaction to his script vs. JJ's and the fact that he seems to have no shot of working with Lucasfilm again, shows he's doing JJ a hella favor

I don't think the blowback to the script has come down on Abrams, who is surely untouchable in Hollywood at this point. There's a reason Chris Terrio (who also wrote Batman v. Superman, remember) immediately started doing damage control, while Abrams has remained mostly silent.

      Replying to @NussbaumAbigail @BootlegGirl

It's possible that Terrio is suffering from an ego hit due to that, whereas Abrams is just looking at the take and going "whatever, I made bank".

Of course Terrio is defensive, "Martha" and "Rey Palpatine" are both his work and they're the two most unintentionally hilarious scenes in cinematic history

I seriously laughed so loud and so long in the theater at the Rey Palpatine reveal and I'm not sorry

I audibly groaned. The movie had already worn out its welcome by then and that was just what made me clock out.

It may be time for someone to not put Terrio in charge of things. I'm sure he has talents but this isn't among them.

Chris Terrio is completely unironically in love with these big SHOCKING REVELATION scenes even though they've been tiresome parody fodder for generations

And even though, you know, right after that happened people started making fun of it ("I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate")

I'm trying to think when the last Big Reveal of this kind I saw was that actually worked Maybe Hodor's origin story (And that one took a lot of effort to set up and takes a long time to explain to people who haven't seen the show)

Ironically that actually wasn't set up in the books originally, Martin revealed it's something the TV show writers came up with and is somewhat different from his idea for Hodor, so props to them I guess

This does explain why he and Abrams get along so well then. Both have an obsession with plot twists that even Robot Chicken M Night Shyamalan can't match.

The Good Place S1 finale. And that worked, in part, because people were expecting something along those lines.

Knives Out? Although the Big Reveal is kinda meta and unconventional, which might be the only way to do big reveals: do stuff that is unexpected not because it's stupid and random, but because you didn't think it was that kind of story

Also Winter Soldier which basically had a meta fake out: everyone was waiting for the reveal of Bucky that no one was expecting the bigger twist. And when ppl talked about not spoiling the twist everyone assumed they meant Bucky so they were looking in the wrong places
