Which honestly, like, I don't know the guy or his politics or whatever but I think given the online reaction to his script vs. JJ's and the fact that he seems to have no shot of working with Lucasfilm again, shows he's doing JJ a hella favor

Ironically that actually wasn't set up in the books originally, Martin revealed it's something the TV show writers came up with and is somewhat different from his idea for Hodor, so props to them I guess

This does explain why he and Abrams get along so well then. Both have an obsession with plot twists that even Robot Chicken M Night Shyamalan can't match.

Knives Out? Although the Big Reveal is kinda meta and unconventional, which might be the only way to do big reveals: do stuff that is unexpected not because it's stupid and random, but because you didn't think it was that kind of story

Also Winter Soldier which basically had a meta fake out: everyone was waiting for the reveal of Bucky that no one was expecting the bigger twist. And when ppl talked about not spoiling the twist everyone assumed they meant Bucky so they were looking in the wrong places
