The question of "How will you pay for it" re: universal healthcare (or any social program) has two meanings: 1) Where do the resources in the economy exist to do it, and 2) How will you legally and politically create a system to make it happen They are very different questions

Look, I hate the big private insurers too, but they exist now and they're very powerful The NHS in the UK was formed at a time when "health insurance" was only purchased by the rich, most doctor's visits were paid in cash and the NHS was the first insurance most people ever had

There's obviously no middle path between hoping people like Pelosi will let you pass good legislation and rolling out the guillotines, right? It's not like you can do speeches, ask people to cal senators and stir up popular pressure, or even call for strikes, right?

And, like, we also can't push to get it right the first time and compromise only if that fails? It's good strategy to compromise before you even start? If this comes off as condescending, it's because I've seen this argument 1,000 times and IT is condescending, IMO.

20 years ago - BCBS was owned by its subscribers - health insurance should have never been allowed to go privately owned & publicly traded. We gave it away, we can take it back.
