I think a lot about how by all rights society should be using a calendar designed a whole lot more recently than the Gregorian calendar but we're locked into it because it would decouple Christian holy days as a centerpiece of the weekhttps://twitter.com/arthur_affect/status/1231721667904172034 …

Admittedly, the calendar would make more sense if there were exactly thirteen months in a year of 28 days (plus one extra day on New Year's Eve, plus a leap day every four years) I just question how she never questioned why the names of the months don't line up https://twitter.com/redditships/status/1231614013894688768 …

Enh at this point we're just locked in period, changing the calendar would require massive institutional revisions of everything no one wants to pay for

Also it's not just Christianity, it's all three big Abrahamic faiths that use a seven day week to mark their holy day (Saturday for Jews, Friday for Muslims)

I mean, even Japan uses our weekends and you aren't going to be tripping over Christians there

But it's especially true for Japan, which was an early adopter of the Gregorian calendar during the Meiji era for the sake of intentionally Westernizing To be fair, the calendar they had before was the product of Chinese cultural imperialism

Japan notably celebrates the Western New Year on January 1 and not the East Asian New Year ("Chinese New Year", "Lunar New Year") for this reason
