Also it's not just Christianity, it's all three big Abrahamic faiths that use a seven day week to mark their holy day (Saturday for Jews, Friday for Muslims)

But it's especially true for Japan, which was an early adopter of the Gregorian calendar during the Meiji era for the sake of intentionally Westernizing To be fair, the calendar they had before was the product of Chinese cultural imperialism

Japan notably celebrates the Western New Year on January 1 and not the East Asian New Year ("Chinese New Year", "Lunar New Year") for this reason
