It a pretty hard lift to win against a GOP incumbent with a "good" economy. It will take an incredibly active and mobilized multiracial coalition, which is why Bernie is the only choice if you want to beat Trump.

I honestly believe the chance that Bernie will be the nominee and then lose to Trump is the currently most likely scenario

Nope, the campaign is ready to scale the huge volunteer base. Bernie has the simplest and best case for the rust belt voters, integrity. Trump will still be trying to defend TX, FL, AZ. Trump can’t afford to lose any of them, and Bernie has the Latino voter advantage.
