I guess we have to go through this again, but "Nordic-style social democracy" is not socialism, it's capitalism The Nordic countries are not socialist, they are capitalist They have landlords, they have investors, they have a stock market, they have big bankshttps://twitter.com/AlexandraErin/status/1231019619198132224 …

People talk like social democracy is "midway between" capitalism and actual socialism or communism and that if we got a "Nordic-style" welfare state we'd be "on the way" to socialism but this is honestly questionable

The Nordic model has existed for a while now and private business owners and landlords remain quite numerous and show few signs of fear that they will be imminently rounded up and guillotined

You have stuff like 30% of the Norwegian workforce being public sector employees, which is a lot - roughly double the 14% in the United States - but not the night and day difference you would expect even from a country "on the way" to abolishing private ownership entirely

It just seems so pointless to have this fight Bernie Sanders' proposed policies objectively *are not* socialist, they're FDR-style "saving capitalism from itself" measures, which is openly the goal of Nordic governments (to stabilize the existing market economy, not overturn it)

I can never get an agreement from anyone on what's Nordic. I've heard people say Finland isn't, and I've heard Finns and non-Finns on either side of that debate

Switzerland isn't in the "Nordic" (northernmost) part of Europe, it's south of Germany

It has ice and snow because of the altitude (the Alps), not the latitude
