I have purchased about 20 books in the past 2 years by authors I was introduced to on Twitter, and for all but 2 of the authors, I've only purchased 1 book, and I'm sure I'm an outlier.

That comment completely ignores the "telephone tree" (don't know how else to describe it but I'm sure there's another term) aspect of social media, whether that be having a post "go viral" for any reason or the reach of SM campaigns. 1/

And you don't have to be a big account with a lot of followers to achieve any of that. You just have to catch enough people at the right time and in the right mind for it to spread.

I wonder what the r-squared is for followers on various platforms is to crowdfunding projects. Much smaller than people imagine certainly. And then the sponsorship deals are a question mark too.

I actually did also "work in this field" (it's not an impressive qualification, any fucking millennial in marketing/sales can call themselves a social media "specialist" and get away with it, there's no such thing as a formal credentialing process)
