Is it a lie to say "I believe in socialism. I also believe the kind of fundamental economic change that will require is a multigenerational project, and for now we can have little a social democracy, as a treat"? Also, are YOU saying that socialism=khmer rouge?

Or do we only know who they are because of anti-Red propaganda Was the Stalinist USSR really just about as bad as Tsarist Russia, was the Great Leap Forward just the same kind of thing as the Qing Emperors and the RoC

In Wikipedia's description of the GLF, there's *a lot* of "Mao was too distrustful of intellectuals to have anyone competent double check his plan"

The problem with revolutions is you always roll the dice. There’s a lot of possible outcomes once you start one and you can never predict what you’ll get. The Khmer Rouge are probably the worst case scenario anyone’s got so far, but some others have been pretty bad too.

No, the Khmer Rouge is famous because they were horrendous, and represent a kind of psychotic spiral into terror not seen since Muenster. But I'm not voting for them; I'm voting for someone who wants to tax the wealthy something close to their fair share. Scary, I know.

We're not talking about who's voting for whom in the election We're talking about a certain set of ideological biases people in certain political circles hold that, while they usually do not lead to mass murder, some of us still find generally troubling and distasteful
