Genuine head scratching to think of who this could refer to in lotr when the rest seem fairly obvious (hard disagree on mad max tho)
The one in Mad Max does change sides and dies at the end for the good guys. I would say that death is not really related to the redemption, but for this phase of the script process it should be there even if it's not mentioned in the final essay.
Just feel like iffy examples like that weaken the point if we’re focusing on really obvious examples like Kylo Ren
But in this phase of the process is good to have all of them, clear and unclear examples. Because in the video they will say things like "While some examples manage to ......". In all their video essays they touch on clear examples and examples that do some aspects right.
Nox never needed redemption, we only ever see noble traits, they just happen to be in service of the bad guys until the presence of actual familial love reveals the truth of his brainwashing from birth. His sacrifice isn’t one of redemption but of a pure soul protecting others.
I don't think the Nux from the end of the movie would have drained another human being as a blood bag for his own use. So his views improved. He was redeemed. And the final act of his redemption was sacrifice. Male, redemption, death. Fits.
He didn’t view his own life with any value and empathy probably wasn’t taught as a virtue, not sure why he’d feel any issue with bagging max, different moral frame of reference entirely, but we aren’t gonna agree, have a good one.
Nux is less an example of "Death = Redemption" than "Redemption = Death", he clearly is meant to have genuinely turned well before his death but his death is an easy way to resolve his arc without doing the work of showing how someone like him could live a different life
It does that with Max, too The key bittersweet moment at the end of the movie where Max can't stay and build a better world with the women, he's too damaged and tainted, so he has to quietly vanish into the desert
