Jonathan McIntosh added,
Genuine head scratching to think of who this could refer to in lotr when the rest seem fairly obvious (hard disagree on mad max tho)
The one in Mad Max does change sides and dies at the end for the good guys. I would say that death is not really related to the redemption, but for this phase of the script process it should be there even if it's not mentioned in the final essay.
Yeah just like Boromir or the T-800 in T2, I'm curious to watch this essay but I'm sure there are many characters that don't belong on that list
It's obviously also arguable if Dyson "needed redemption" or not - do we think everyone who works for defense contractors irl is an evil person? Skynet itself isn't a weapon, it's a control system meant to increase oversight over the nuclear arsenal and make war *less* likely
I mean the moment Dyson received evidence of what his work would lead to he instantly vowed to destroy it at the cost of his own life, I wouldn't even call it "redemption" It's almost the opposite trope, the movie needs an innocent person to horribly die to get its rocks off
Hence the awkwardness of making him Black
