basically the landing gear DOES determine the maximum take off & landing weight, it's just that take off weight can be heavier cause of the increased lift, so it's possible for a plane to be able to go up but not down

(I did like them slightly nodding to realism in the MCU, when Giant-Man falls over he simply can't stand up again unless he shrinks first, and the whole process is incredibly exhausting)

This is a whole evolutionary biology topic It's a tradeoff for us to be bipeds, we get many advantages from being tall and having hands but the flipside is if we suddenly lose our balance we can seriously hurt ourselves Basically not a concern for most quadrupeds
