Even if he was most historians believe he was either Welsh or Scottish but either way was definitely not a Christian hero king like media likes to pretend

Wasn't there some movement that thought RH might be made up stories based William Wallace in the woods? But yeah, I can't imagine anyone getting twisted up because something doesn't follow a totally fictional tradition. /s

He was real but not like the legends portray him.
-
He most likely was not, in any sense, "real" If there was a guy named Arthur the legends are based on he wasn't even a king and the seed of the legends was a misunderstanding

Amy is still making a good point- even operating under the idea that he was historical, everything we have about him is still tantamount to fanfic.

I'm not arguing with her

Wow didn't realize you were a Robin Hood denier Arthur. Unsubbed.

In reality, he was a Winchester local who found a discarded sword in a lake he'd just pissed in.

My English-Lit. major friend told me that Lancelot could be the first “Mary Sue” fanfic. The French add to the Arthurian legend and it’s this one character who is just better at everything than anyone else, and just happens to be French.
