Also, that (and this could have been nifty but of course got ruined) that the two original main leads both lacked proper names

Solo also made a big deal out of Han coming up with the nickname "Chewie"

Also it seems pretty obvious General Grievous wasn't actually born with the name Grievous but I guess the book that established what his birth name was is no longer canon

Absent canon evidence I am going to assume he was born with both the name and the rank

So before he enlisted, he was General Grievous, and then he was like Private General Grievous and Major General Grievous and then he was General General Grevious. Kay.

In utero at the rank of General? Good work if you can get it, I guess!

He was promoted in the proper order, just very quickly

I mean "general" is a rank they just sort of throw around in Star Wars. Anakin, Obi Wan, Han, seems like everybody gets to be a general if they want. Only Leia was actually qualified for it.

It's just grandfathering in all the Jedi Knights as "Generals" basically so any Jedi can give an order to anyone else in the military and be obeyed

What about Han then? And given how shit a commander Anakin was, giving him a rank that high was a terrible idea.
