I'm so sorry :( but that's exactly why I object to it, and basically all atheist "realistic" approaches to death (which is what this is) when they try to suggest somehow the (likely true) atheist theory of death is superior to the positive idealized religious afterlives

Because of what does (or doesn't) come after the stopping. For many people, well some people at least, the idea of non-existence is terrifying/distressing on a deep, deep level.

So basically, the ideal Ellie has is (I think) that if there is some sort of afterlife, existing forever in a pleasant manner and constantly having new and fun experiences would be the best.
