What else, off the top of my head The Prestige is my favorite Nolan movie and one of my favorite movies period I checked out the novel because of it and I have to say while it wasn't bad I remember a lot less of it

That's just it, right, if I didn't just tell you it was based on a novel how many of you would know How many people thought of Jojo Rabbit as a novel adaptation before people started talking about it for Best Adapted Screenplay (I'm told the book is fine but not nearly as good)

2001 wasn't really a novel adaptation--the book and the movie co-evolved from the same development process and ended up somewhat different in detail; neither preceded the other.

Yeah, and they ultimately do kind of different things anyway - Clarke is a much more specific sci-fi author, Kubrick's stylized horror gives a different impression.

I'll also come out and say that while neither are genius, the Harry Potter films are generally better than their respective books because they have stronger editing and because Rowling essentially writes past tense screenplays with quote tags

I'll take the movie over the book with Dune any day. And probably the whole Lord of the Rings series, but ESPECIALLY The Two Towers.

Kubrick developed 2001 while Clarke was writing it. In fact, Clarke incorporated some things from the movie into the sequels to the book.

Oh I disagree on The Shining for many reasons. Visually and musically, the film does well to convey the creep in the story. In terms of theme and character, it falls flat. Also, I still do not forgive what he did to Dick Halloran.

I was suprised when I read The Shining, the book, that the chef succeeds at saving the family. He gets axed in the chest out of nowhere in the film I know King sucks with POC but Kubrick took it and fucked it up again.

I mean... I don't know that I'd agree that the extra degree of tragedy in the film makes the film racist
