It's like that bit in hbomb's Sherlock video about how the preoccupation with talking about the cool stuff going on offscreen just made the stuff happening onscreen into a anticlimactic letdown.

Palpatine was the only good thing about TROS in my opinion. Without him it'd be an utterly worthless movie

I honestly think he is the worst element. I think Kylo would have made for a far more interesting villain.

I do think that the narrative workings that had to happen to make room for Palpatine might have buried the movie because none of it is interesting but when McDiarmid is onscreen, I mean, he's real good at doing the thing he does.

He is. He is very good at being a villain. But man, I just can't get over like a whole navy of ships fully crewed just showing up out of nowhere.

yeah that's all pretty bad. Understand, I literally only mean when he is onscreen and absolutely none of the context. Seeing him go all Universal Monster while connected to some kind of HR Giger contraption is more raw #aesthetic than I'd have dared dream of seeing in a SW movie

I feel so silly for thinking at first this was going to be like Animorphs ghost-writers filling in the details as they hit pre-determined plot points in a soulless machine of weaponized nostalgia. I expected too much of the Mouse.

I still stand by Palpatine being the movie's saving grace despite also being kind of the reason it's so devoid of interesting goings-on because like, he could have been there and the movie didn't have to be so damn boring around him.

They might have done something with Kylo being poised to be a big bad only to be swept aside as an unwitting pawn in this asshole's absurdly drawn-out scheme. Really I just think they needed more movies, but the trilogy thing has to rhyme I guess

You know I'm not a fan of long movies that you see in theaters where you can't pause them to go pee But seriously this movie felt like it was desperately begging to be a half hour longer at least, if not two movies

Weird thing is the way people talked about it I was expecting this super compressed, incoherent, frenetic thing but I honestly found it super slow and bloated, like 2/3rds of the movie is just running-in-place nonsense where characters are looking for the next runtime-extender
