I'm "terrified" that people are going to tell obvious and absurd lies with statistics because it's already happened with her last study and you're already doing it before this study comes out "This study has responses from 200 detransitioners, which *proves*" etc etchttps://twitter.com/dogcalledbambi/status/1224721866432098310 …

But by making it into a "study" she knows that propagandists will feel free to do shit they wouldn't do with a Twitter thread Like make up some bullshit multipliers ("If 200 people responded to this little study then that PROVES there are 2 million of us in the population")

I would actually argue that this does less than that. At least with "Tell your detransition story" there is a chance to catch those who have detransitioned and are opposed to the TERF narrative that surrounds their experience and will openly say so.

Yeah the survey is significantly worse than just saying "Tell your story", it's setting up a Mad Lib of an existing narrative and encouraging you to just fill in the blanks "How abused were you as a child" "Which trans communities groomed you" "How shamed were you for being gay"

It's way worse, really. A random Twitter thread necessarily includes opposed accounts. Arguments with the weirder cases. Direct access to what all the detrans accounts look like, for whatever that's worth. Hell, less anonymity from participants.

This is a Twitter thread dressed down. Missing that troubled, limited, but vital capacity to interrogate the information put before you. Twitter with inexplicably less nuance.
