it's true that different countries are different on this but America is actually kinda middle of the road. Spain is way more libertarian both in practice and in self-image, for example. Japan is very much on the "society must be carefully controlled" end of the scale though

in the US you might be used to "social degeneracy" being linked strongly to LGBTQ people as well as to sexualised media and video games. In the UK it's much more skewed towards being anti-sex exclusively and in Germany I believe they're paranoid about violence above all
