Wait, which husband and wife, C and E? That one's not really an issue it's possible to compromise on

Well, I guess he could've promised to stay until they both were ready to leave, but it's very strongly hinted that her attachment to him was preventing her from finally becoming mature enough to pass on herself

And that solution isn't a compromise, that's her getting everything she wants at his expense

I'm... not sure we had the same reading of that scene? Chidi isn't leaving because Eleanor is flawed, Chidi is leaving because it's time for him to leave, period

Eleanor's insecurity making her think her inadequacy is why Chidi's time has come IS her flaw And it's entirely her issue, it has nothing to do one way or the other with the fact that Chidi's time is up and holding him back causes him suffering

It's also not really that Chidi taking the bodhisattva route and staying out of love for Eleanor is wrong It's the same choice Tahani makes, in her case out of love for the whole world It's just that she realizes her needed moment of growth is not needing that from him anymore
