I feel pretty convinced that there's just no room in my life for television shows like THE OFFICE, PARKS AND REC, BROOKLYN 99, THE GOOD PLACE et al in this decade It's all just starting to feel like comedy for basic bitches that got too much of a RAM upgrade to settle for SNL

That's the most glaring and obvious difference with Community S4, that suddenly you get episodes where the sitcom moral you expected from the opening is actually what the episode straight up says in the ending

The funny thing is, I'd argue Community is every bit as schmaltzy as Parks & Rec, there's just an undercurrent of existential despair about it. Mike Schuer comedies make you feel like so long as you have a support network, you can go places.

In Community, it goes as far as "so long as you have a support network." Entire episodes are dedicated to the protagonists bonding, learning some valuable lesson about how hard it can be to live with someone, etc.
