I remember the I think "Giga Society" that was created for people supposedly at the one in a billion level, of whom there should be about 7. They found 6, all of whom somehow happened to be men of northern European extraction.

The very idea that such a test would be even possible is of course absurd, and the fact that you've never heard of these six guys and they haven't accomplished anything in particular demonstrates how pointless the exercise is

The only one that's stayed solvent is the most "inclusive" such society, Mensa, and its founder has admitted that while he hoped it would be some kind of salon/think tank solving big social problems it's nothing like that, just a dinner club for nerds

I was part of a couple and yeah, they are basically a social club for people who like logic puzzles. I did appreciate the scholarship though.

Yeah - though it's possible that the traits that allow them to become great are similar to the ones that allow you to do well on IQ tests, while not actually having to do with scientific ability.
