It's quite a thing when the best argument in favor of a practice is, "Killing it probably wouldn't work anyway." Imagine if they adopted that attitude in horror movies.

If normal people want to outperform mutual funds, they think they have a better shot gambling in the short term on day trading than on investing in stock. Like gambling, the house always wins, but survivor bias and gambling impulses keep people playing.
