I usually say that the dividing line is just south of Columbus, but really you could split the state into three to four segments. The southwestern part I grew up in is basically a northern extension of Kentucky.
Which is why the region is sometimes jokingly referred to as "Hamil-tucky"
Part of the problem is Midwest was originally defined as the *early* Western states (before the Louisiana Purchase) but as the country conquered or bought more and more territory the definition of the West and Midwest both shifted... well... westward.
Eventually the West hit the Pacific and sort of settled into everything west of the Rockies (although even then stuff further east like Texas is included) but the Midwest ended up meaning anything but *not* everything between the old 1763 treaty zone and whatever the West was.
