And there's some evidence he wasn't really needed for that, since we've had wildly popular shows revolving around just the George character (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and just the Elaine (New Adventures of Old Christine, Veep)

It really was endemic to the 90s sitcom-from-a-standup-career deal. Like...Everybody Loves Raymond. Home Improvement. etc.

Yeah Tim Allen wasn't the worst thing about Home Improvement because there was very little to the show without him so it was just a bad show But yes same kind of thing
