The funny thing I haven't seen people really talk about is that Rick and Morty is, for better or for worse, 100% a modernization of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Everything people don't like about it is what they wouldn't like about Douglas Adams if he were new

And I mean Rick and Morty along with other modern examples of "nihilistic humor" is absolutely a reaction to current events The Tales from the Citadel episode was made just before the 2016 US election and the whole thing is a big mood about the country irrevocably falling apart

Like I said, I haven’t seen it, so I can’t comment on specifics. But the Guide characters were laid back and none of them had really bad motives. It was all froody.

The problem with nuclear is that when there is an accident, and you can’t guarantee there won’t be any, are very very bad. Plus storage of the type of fuel that was used then.
