Another thing I read is the Guide books, especially the last two, came at very specific moments of DNA’s life. So Long, he’d just gotten married & settled into being successful finally, whereas by Mostly Harmless, the bloom was off the rose & he wasn’t adjusting well as a dad.

Arthur loses Fenchurch the very next book & everywhere he looks for help, he’s told tough shit. DNA said he was working on a bit more positive ending to the trilogy when he died, as he’d gotten readjusted to his life & things were good again. Which is just heartbreaking, really.
