They sort of have to so the show keeps getting made, don’t they? It’s not the type of thing you can have any character development along the lines of Ventura Bros. Also why HHGTTG wouldn’t work as an ongoing tv show & barely worked as a “trilogy”.

One thing to keep in mind is that everything after the first 6 episodes of the radio drama are basically DNA fiddling with a profitable IP & meeting deadlines so he wouldn’t have to pay back publisher’s advances. It’s amazing it holds together at all.
