You have to have skin in the fucking game Anyone can say they're an ally to trans people when talking directly to trans people and everyone does No one knows where you stand until they see you talking to transphobes Deciding whose friend you are because you can't be everyone's

"What value would there be in Bernie telling off Joe Rogan and throwing away his votes" It would be proof that when he says he cares about trans people he MEANS IT It's a "costly signal", it's him personally giving up something as a sign of loyalty

Sounds good. Except, its a sad truth that most people in US don't care about trans rights. Those that DO care very much are in a minority. And the choice at this point is between a candidate who would shoot transpeople in the streets if he could and a guy who is for their rights.

And I am really, really sick of equating talking with liberal guy who supports 95% leftist policies with "the worst thing ever!" because you disagree with that 5%. And equaling talking with that guy and accepting promotion with allying with his base while excluding everybody els.

I know this is frickin' twitter and loudest, most extreme voices are heard the most and nuanced argument is all but impossible. But this is getting frickin' ridiculous. Acting like a candidate who got promoted by a podcaster suddenly invited transphobes to be his advisers, really?

What really happened: a guy who you agree with 99% was promoted on a podcast of a guy you agree on 95% of the issues. And 99% guy gave a shout out in return to 95% guy. And you all exploded on that 4% difference. And are still talking about it, a week later. Meanwhile...

a guy you agree on 2% of the issues is literally maintaining concentration camps for children, taking away LGBT+ rights, destroying healthcare and environment. And you agree you are being obnoxious about 4% disagreement. And because of that you are ready to let 2% guy win again.

Your numbers are probably off, but you know what, who cares Let's say I am Why isn't that a problem for Bernie's messaging you should bring to his people instead of yelling at me about it

Seriously, this is demonstrating the whole thing I was saying about who gets treated as a customer vs an employee "You've got to reach out to Rogan's fans, persuade them, not just scold them and expect them to fall in line" Oh but you CAN scold me and expect me to fall in line

The thing I said about obnoxiousness being a test? It cuts both ways Joe Rogan and his fans are plenty obnoxious, and that's an issue of signaling too - embracing them is making a bet that we'll be willing to tolerate what we find obnoxious about them because of Trump

And yes, it's telling of where someone's internal priorities are - their sense of virtue, to get all philosophy 101 about it - when they think it's okay to tell us to tolerate their obnoxiousness but not them to tolerate ours

While I do agree in theory I’m also gonna say as a trans PoC who faced a lot of housing insecurity Im starting to see universal plans as the only way to get what I need because it will force shitty white dudes to have some skin in the game

The beauty of universalism vs a warren/Buttigieg-esque targeted plan is that it can have wide support across class, racial, gender, political and sexual orientation lines whereas I know that the next republican administration will quietly gut whatever crumbs the technocrats gave
