This is really sending me They've constructed a bizarre fantasy world they're treating as fact where CS is a millionaire heiress and the driver a terrified desperate soul one unpaid bill away from the streets Based on nothing https://twitter.com/eriexplosion/status/1220548211162484736 …

Hey I'll throw this one out there I think there's a decent chance the Uber driver has more money than Coffeespoonie He did, after all, spring for a pretty expensive car with leather seats he's protective of And doesn't seem particularly scared of getting banned from Uber

Why are you so sure he's poor? Because he's an immigrant? How do you even know he's an immigrant? Because he speaks English with an accent and has dark skin? Think about that for a minute

Is it because you know for a fact no one would drive for Uber unless they were extremely poor and that all Uber drivers rely on Uber as their sole means of income If that's what you think you really don't know much about it

One of the most basic traits of Uber is that it has really high driver turnover It IS a shitty job that no one would commit to doing full time unless they really had to But that's why a lot of people don't

Plenty of people try it as a part time thing, buying into the hype that it's a great easy way to make money on your own schedule, get sick of it and then quit It's set up to encourage people doing this A lot of people I knew in my 20s tried it

Uber relies on this, it keeps the numbers high and the overall wages for drivers low People are aware of this and there's a fair amount of resentment you can see on forums from full-timers and long-timers against part-timers and short-timers

I saw a post from a driver saying in his opinion the driver in CS's story sounded like a part-timer who shrugged off her pleas because he was close to giving up on driving anyway I dunno if he's right, could be bullshit, it could come out he's really poor and I'll feel bad

But YOU DON'T KNOW No one knows the facts, and Uber benefits from the fact that their app makes no distinction between people trying out the service to try to make a few bucks and people who think of driving as their profession

Again, I will remind you that one of the other drivers CS reported *voluntarily* quit driving for Uber after getting a warning over the service dog issue So apparently *that* driver wasn't as desperately dependent on her Uber income as all that
