That's the most pathetic definition of neoliberalism I've come across yet.

This is an extremely shitty version of Marxist analysis that only serves to discredit the Left It's a very typical pattern of people calling to abandon "moral judgment" out of principle to obscure that they don't actually think what the guy did was bad

Look Uber is ALSO notorious for drivers committing sexual harassment and assault, running the gamut from passengers being actually kidnapped to "only" being engaged in suggestive conversation or stalked through abuse of their contact info

This is obviously the fault of Uber's business model and of the current conditions of capitalism It relies on a big pool of drivers, meaning they inevitably cut corners on background checks and screening

There's also a big pool of customers, young people these days who can't afford a car, can't afford to live conveniently to transit, have precarious gig based lifestyles where they don't have a regular workplace nor get to know their neighbors The economy makes them vulnerable

Uber could do a lot to fix this problem, but they haven't, not until they've been threatened with lawsuits, and then slowly and recalcitrantly This problem would instantly become much smaller in a non-Uber business with real employees

And obviously in a better country or a better world people wouldn't have to physically entrust their safety to a stranger at all All of this is true BUT IT IS STILL ALSO THE DRIVER'S FAULT

It is the height of headass galaxy brain radicaler than thou bullshit to say that because these drivers were precarious gig workers they had no agency or responsibility and judging them or getting emotionally upset over them is bourgeois morality and holding back socialism
