That was a bit they wanted to do in ANH when the Falcon escapes Tatooine but they didn't have the money or expertise yet. The little ships can zoom around a lot, but the big ships always seem to handle like destroyers at the Battle of Midway.

It would be really weird if SW suddenly turned into The Expanse. I'm still weirded out by the one Trade Federation ship in TPM doing the 180º in midflight. That feels *wrong* somehow.

It's just a fleeting detail. I'll take a look at YouTube. Okay, maybe it's something I misremembered.

I remember on Babylon 5 they made a big deal of the ships realistically being able to spin around and shoot backwards while moving in the same direction (like in Asteroids), thanks to moving away from models to CGI

Come to think of it the first big production with CGI space battles, The Last Starfighter, had spinning around in place as the secret special maneuver (the Death Blossom Technique)

Alex and Grieg spin other times too. That was a very maneuverable ship

That's the thing though, spinning in space isn't hard, it's easy In fact it's hard to *not* spin (the rotational thrusters would have to compensate every time something hits the ship to keep it from spinning)

Space being a frictionless medium where there's no ground and no atmosphere you're touching that keeps you locked in a certain orientation and trajectory makes spaceships really counterintuitive for earthbound pilots

Flying on earth is more like surfing. Outside of gravity wells, Spaceflight is all about force vectors you generate all by yourself

Yeah, as someone once put it flying a spaceship in an atmosphere is kind of like flying a jet liner underwater. It follows the reverse is also true.
