But it's telling that for a substantial group of fans that this meant that Plagueis was "real," to the extent that there was an entire EU novel about his relationship w/the young Palpatine. I always felt that the EU was monetized fanfic. Lucas clearly never cared about it.

Well he cared about it selectively. Like there were specific projects he took a special interest in like Tales of the Jedi, Shadows of the Empire, The Force Unleashed, and Clone Wars. But the rest he mostly ignored.

Presumably he ignored The Force Unleashed 2 because... yikes.

I'm not sure but I think so. He was mostly involved in developing the pitch for the first game and giving the devs an idea of what he felt the Empire was like in the early years.

I imagine like Clone Wars it was supposed to tie into Underworld eventually but since the show was never made that didn't end up happening.

Quite the shame. Crime shenanigans in the Empire would have been a great thing to watch. The Force Unleashed 2 was... real bad.

I did like seeing Rey pull (literally) some Starkiller (protagonist of Force Awakens) shenanigans with pulling ships from the sky. Shame the context was so absurd

It was fine when it was one small transport "just over the hill". When Palpatine dropped fleets from the sky it was beyond stupid.

The funniest part about that is he doesn't even blow many of them up. They just... get their UI fuzzed up for a bit? Like they don't even lose antigrav because they're still in the air minutes later.

Yeah, as far as I can tell he's using the force to scramble the CRT monitors and sloooowly drag them out of the sky. I know some of the fighters appear to be in freefall, but apparently they're real high up because they fall for fucking ages.

The meaning of the visual language here seems to be that the Force Lightning literally works like a movie EMP, it's "turning off" the ships' electronic systems but the ships themselves are fine as soon as it goes away

Meanwhile "ion cannons" which have always done that, and been blue, suddenly are green and just blow things up

and in TFA the "ventral cannons" are missile launchers JJ apparently just doesn't give a fuck about weapon terminology and it's viscerally irritating
