Struck by the LotR influences in TRoS. The Wayfinder hisses and whispers like the Ring. The random flashbacks are very Peter Jackson. It feels like the movie was cut down from a lot of material, some of which was never finished.

It's notable because the prequels didn't do this even when they would've made people happy if they did Anakin's origin is shrouded and stays that way We have Shmi verbally telling Qui-Gon and us "There was no father" and that's it, we have to take that on faith

Palpatine's Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise is just a story, told in misleading and veiled language by a known liar who's clearly manipulating Anakin, and we're left with no clear assurance that Plagueis was even real, much less that he or Palpatine was Anakin's "real father"

I think it reflects a growing dependence on EU-style lore. The Sith cult in TRoS is not something Lucas would've ever done. Lucas was never interested in the backstory. You knew the Empire were bad bc they dressed like Nazis and worked in Brutalist spaceships.
