Hot take, everyone says the opioid crisis is because of "overprescription" but a big part of it is you can't prescribe the actually good drugs in the first place because they're too good (I am talking about cannabis legalization but not just that)

Well, also drug development costs millions upon millions. Because most of the ideas and leads turn out to be dead ends. But by the time you find out, a LOT of money has been spent on it. *Something* has to be charged. But the extreme profit-making? No, that's not necessary.

How many times have you seen some thinkpiece writer talk about how XYZ shows us that SSRIs don't work very well? How many of those times did they go on to suggest that depressed people deserve better, so we need to find better drugs?

If we found a magic pill with no side effects tomorrow, most of the same people would be against it. Effective drugs help level the playing field. A lot of people find that threatening.
